Unesco World Heritage List

UNESCO adopted the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage on November 16, 1972. Turkey joined the Unesco Convention on 14.04.1982.With the submission of the necessary documents to UNESCO Headquarters, Turkey officially became a party to the Convention on 16.03.1983. There are 1157 heritage sites declared as World Heritage Sites on the World Heritage List determined by the World Heritage Committee. Of these, 900 are cultural, 218 are natural and 39 are mixed (natural and cultural) heritages. Turkey is included in this list with 19 heritage sites.

These legacies are listed below:

3. Goreme National Park and Cappadocia (Nevsehir) 1985 (Mixed Heritage Area)
4. Hattusa: The Hittite Capital (Corum) 1986
5. Mount Nemrut (Adıyaman) 1987
6. Hieropolis-Pamukkale (Denizli) 1988 (Mixed Heritage Area)
7. Xanthos-Letoon (Antalya-Muğla) 1988
8. The City of Safranbolu (Karabuk) 1994
9. Trojan Archaeological Site (Çanakkale) 1998
10. Edirne Selimiye Mosque and Complex (Edirne) 2011
11. Çatalhöyük Neolithic Site (Konya) 2012
12. Bursa and Cumalıkızık: The Birth of the Ottoman Empire (Bursa) 2014
13. Bergama Multi-Layered Cultural Landscape Area (Izmir) 2014
14. Diyarbakır Castle and Hevsel Gardens Cultural Landscape (Diyarbakır) 2015
